Terms of Service
Effective date: June 22, 2026
These terms are drafted to match Cheftal's current product behavior across the iOS app, web share pages, API, and supporting services. They are not a substitute for legal advice.
1. Acceptance
These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of Cheftal's iOS app, website, shared pages, APIs, and related services. By using Cheftal, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Cheftal.
2. Accounts and eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Cheftal. You are responsible for your account, your sign-in credentials, devices, sessions, and activity under your account.
You agree to provide accurate information, keep your account secure, and promptly notify us of unauthorized access. We may refuse, reclaim, or change usernames, badges, or profile content that violate these Terms or create risk or confusion.
3. Your content and licenses
You keep ownership of recipes, photos, videos, captions, profile information, cookbooks, messages, pantry data, shopping lists, feedback, and other content you submit to Cheftal, subject to rights held by others.
You grant Cheftal a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, perform, adapt, transmit, distribute, create derivative works from, and otherwise use your content as needed to operate, improve, secure, promote, and provide Cheftal, including generating previews, share cards, recommendations, moderation results, backups, and technical transformations.
For content you make public or share through public links, you authorize Cheftal to make that content available to other users and the public according to your selected visibility settings and product behavior.
You represent that you have all rights necessary to upload or share your content and that your content does not violate law, infringe others' rights, or violate these Terms.
4. Acceptable use
You may not use Cheftal to upload, create, share, or promote unlawful, harmful, abusive, harassing, hateful, sexually exploitative, violent, deceptive, spammy, malware-related, privacy-invasive, or infringing content or activity.
You may not scrape, crawl, reverse engineer, interfere with, overload, bypass access controls, evade bans, abuse invitations or contact discovery, impersonate others, misrepresent affiliations, or use Cheftal to develop competing datasets or services except as permitted by law or written agreement.
You may not use Cheftal's recipe, nutrition, allergen, dietary, pantry, shopping, AI, or recommendation features as a substitute for professional medical, nutrition, food-safety, allergy, or legal advice.
5. Recipes, food safety, allergens, nutrition, and AI outputs
Cheftal helps people discover and organize recipes. Recipe instructions, ingredient amounts, cook times, substitutions, nutrition labels, allergen labels, dietary tags, pantry scans, receipt scans, and AI-generated outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsafe for your circumstances.
You are responsible for checking ingredients, allergens, nutrition, cooking temperatures, food handling, equipment safety, and suitability before preparing or consuming food. Cheftal does not guarantee that content is safe, accurate, healthy, allergen-free, or suitable for any person.
6. Social, sharing, and moderation
Cheftal includes public profiles, public and private recipes, cookbooks, follows, friendships, direct-message card sharing, share links, reports, appeals, blocking, and moderation. Visibility settings and relationship controls affect access, but no online sharing feature can guarantee that recipients will not copy, save, screenshot, or redistribute content.
We may review, reject, restrict, remove, downgrade, hide, label, or preserve content or accounts; revoke share links; suspend or ban users; and use automated or human review when we believe it is appropriate to enforce these Terms, protect users, comply with law, or operate Cheftal.
You may report content or appeal certain moderation decisions where product features allow. We are not required to publish or maintain any content and may decline or resolve reports and appeals in our discretion.
7. Third-party services and links
Cheftal integrates with third-party services such as Clerk for authentication, RevenueCat and Apple for purchases/subscriptions, PostHog for analytics, cloud hosting/storage/CDN/database infrastructure, AI service providers, push notification providers, and Instacart for shopping links. Third-party services may have their own terms and privacy policies.
Cheftal may include links to external sites or content, including source URLs, creator links, social media links, and Instacart links. We are not responsible for third-party content, products, services, or practices.
8. Subscriptions, Pro features, and payments
Cheftal may offer free and paid features, including Pro subscriptions, trials, usage limits, quotas, and feature-specific upsells. Prices, features, limits, and availability may change over time.
In-app purchases are processed by Apple and entitlement status is managed through RevenueCat. Your purchase, renewal, cancellation, refund, and billing relationship is generally governed by Apple's terms and App Store settings. Unless required by law or Apple's policies, subscription fees are non-refundable by Cheftal.
We may grant, adjust, revoke, or expire promotional, admin-granted, trial, or comped access in our discretion.
9. Account deletion and termination
You may request account deletion through supported app flows or by contacting hello@cheftal.app. Deletion handling is described in the Privacy Policy and may include a grace period, public-content deletion or anonymization where supported, and retention needed for legal, safety, audit, backup, or legitimate operational purposes.
We may suspend, restrict, or terminate access to Cheftal at any time if we believe you violated these Terms, created risk, caused harm, or if needed for legal or operational reasons. You may stop using Cheftal at any time.
10. Intellectual property
Cheftal, including the app, website, software, designs, logos, trademarks, brand assets, and platform content other than user content, is owned by Cheftal or its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not grant you rights to use Cheftal branding or software except as necessary to use the service as intended.
If you submit feedback or suggestions, you grant Cheftal the right to use them without restriction or compensation.
11. Disclaimers
Cheftal is provided on an 'as is' and 'as available' basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, and any warranties arising from course of dealing or usage of trade.
We do not warrant that Cheftal will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, accurate, or available in any particular location, or that content or AI outputs will meet your needs.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cheftal and its affiliates, officers, employees, agents, and providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or lost profits, revenues, goodwill, data, or content arising from or related to Cheftal or these Terms.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cheftal's total liability for any claim arising from or related to Cheftal or these Terms will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid Cheftal for the service in the 12 months before the claim or US $100.
13. Indemnity
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Cheftal and its affiliates, officers, employees, agents, and providers from claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising from or related to your content, your use of Cheftal, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of law or third-party rights.
14. Changes and contact
We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we will provide notice as required by law. Your continued use of Cheftal after updated Terms take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
